July 18, 1914 - Army Aviation Section created - As part of the Army Signal Corps. Strength: 60 officers and cadets, 260 enlisted men.

July 21, 1921 - Battleship sunk by airplanes - Joint service tests against the German battleship Ostfriesland ended dramatically when BrigGen Billy Mitchell’s Army bombers dropped eleven 1000- and 2000-pound bombs, sinking the ship.

July 4, 1908 - Wholly public flight - Glenn H Curtiss flew more than a mile at Hammondsport NY in the AEA’s June Bug, bringing him the Scientific American trophy. Fitted with wingtip ailerons, it also brought a lawsuit by the Wrights over infringement of their patent.

July 17, 1908 - Air ordinances - Laws were passed governing local aeronautical activities at Kissimmee FL.

July 17, 1910 - Mile-high altitude record - Walter Brookins climbed 6,234′ (>6,175′) into the sky over Atlantic City NJ in his new Wright Model A, for which he was awarded a $5,000 prize.

July 1, 1911 - US Navy airplane - Curtiss D Triad as Navy A-1, first flown by Lt T G Ellyson. This was followed by a Curtiss A-2 and Wright B-1.

MMU FTC Celebrates the 80th Anniversary of Charles A. Lindbergh’s non-stop Transatlantic solo flight.

June 23, 1905 - Fully controllable and maneuverable flight - First flight of the Wright Flyer #3 at Huffman Prairie, Dayton OH, in which a fully-controllable, powered aircraft was able to turn and bank, and remain aloft for up to 30 minutes.

June 22, 1909 - Aeroplane dealership - Wyckoff, Church & Partridge, auto dealers in New York City, acquired the Curtiss line.

June 21, 1914 - Woman parachutist - 15-year-old Georgia “Tiny” Broadwick made a tethered jump from 1,000′ over Los Angeles CA.

June 16, 1922 - Helicopter in controlled horizontal flight - Henry Berliner in a war-surplus Nieuport biplane fighter modified with tilting tail rotor, and a short-span upper wing with 14′0″ helicopter blades at the tips, in a demonstration for the military at College Park MD.
